Gee, this is too bad. She certainly made a mistake by driving in this condition. Those Eastham cops are always "Johnny on the Spot". Sorry she has to go through this. Thank goodness no one was hurt or injured. I'm sure she will learn a great lesson from this. I still support her as my County Commissioner. She has a good head on her shoulders, and obviously suffered from a lack of judgement here. She's human.

Yes, Sheila is human and has a good head on her shoulders...when she is not drunk, slurring her speech, and driving wrecklessly endangering the public safety...this is the first time she got caught driving in this drunken condition, it does NOT mean it has been the only time that she has ever done it, which is highly unlikely!!!

MEOW! I don't know a lot about Shelia Lyons, other than she is human. If she were a man would you be calling him a lush? She deserves credit for taking responsibility immediately and not hiding from the press. Politics, especially here, is a real dirty business. This woman is going to pay plenty for her mistake. No need to pile on.

She should resign. Public officials need to set a higher standard. She had choices, one of which was to drive one was to call a friend or a taxi. I expect more from my elected officials and I demand more.

As others across the Cape have been saying, we all make mistakes, some of us more than others. Yes, as a public official Commissioner Lyons is supposed to be a role model for all, so let's wait and see how this matter turns out. As part of the process, she will probably be assigned to a probation officer for about a year or so. If there are no further legal problems, then along with the County Commissioner, perhaps we will all be able to just move on...

...just as a point of information, there is also some question as to whether or not an actual recall mechanism actually exists as part of the County Home Rule Charter. The word "Recall" is mentioned in the title caption of Article 7, but there is no clearly defined process or outline to follow regarding it. The issue is rather cloudy and the county assembly has not as of yet responded to inquiries about it made a few weeks ago

I am not demanding a recall of her, however I feel she should step down. I am not saying this is something she is going to do, just that I feel it would be the right thing. Of course expecting a public official to do the right thing is a pipe dream these days.

You already tried to force town-wide sewering upon Orleans, please do not stink up our fair town as well... As for Sheila Lyons, she needs to go the same route as Fulcher, either resign or ousted via a recall election!!!

Good luck figuring out the mechanics of a county wide recall election, let alone pulling one off.

Voters were impressed enough with Lyons to recently re-elect her. It's up to the voters, not a few hostile or holier than thou rivals to remove her. She may choose to resign on her own, or the voters may force her out of office. Unlike a lot of politicians, she admitted fault and immediately took responsibility for her actions. Let the voters decide her political future.

...just so everyone will be aware of it, there is NO RECALL ELECTION MECHANISM in the Barnstable County Home Rule Charter. I had two lawyers look it it, and am presently seeking the Assembly of Delegates to address the matter. Apparently as a result of some rather sloppy drafting of the original legislation the term "recall" was left in the title caption of Article 7, but either the process was never put into place OR it was, but had been removed at the final state of approval in the State House back in 1988 or earlier. So, it looks like the County Assembly is simply going to amend the County Charter in order to completely remove the term Recall from the title caption. That is where things seem to stand at this point...

In the absence of a recall provision in the county charter, if they really wanted to, voters could probably force Lyons to resign with pressure via petition, letters, the press, and/or public comment. It seems enough for most folks that Lyons is human, she's admitted to making a serious mistake, and she's going to face substantial consequences through the court system. It's unlikely that a substantial effort will be launched against Lyons on this issue. Most of the armchair judges saying how things "should" be done rarely ever DO anything towards making them happen.
