Climate Action Week Starts Today

Climate Action Week starts today with a full roster of green events.

 

Climate Action Week aims to coordinate activities that strengthen the community, lay the foundation of a carbon-free future, and build resilience in a rapidly changing world. Here's a full schedule of events this week:

Monday, July 18

7pm: Town Hall - Selectmen are asked to proclaim "Climate Action Week"

Tuesday, July 19

7pm: Climate Summer bikers arrival, potluck supper at the First Congregational Church

Thursday, July 21

8:30am: Community Bike Ride, Depot Avenue parking lot, alongside the bikeway. This ride will be appropriate for bikers of most ages, and will explore the challenges and opportunities for bike infrastructure in town.

12-6pm: Farmer's Market, Peg Noonan Park, Main Street. 

4-6pm: Bike Clinic with Corner Cycle on the Library Lawn, Main Street.

7pm: Screening of "Gasland" presented by Cape and Islands Self-Reliance in the Falmouth Public Library Hermann Room.

Friday, July 22

10am-2pm: Woods Hole Climate Fair on the Redfield Lawn, 45 Water Street Woods Hole. There will be hands-on activities and displays for people of all ages. If heavy rains, event will be moved to the Woods Hole Fire Station.

11:30am-1:30pm: Climate Talks, Redfield Auditorium at WHOI. In 10-15 minute presentations, climate researchers and local authorities will share the most important messages from their work and how they relate to the Falmouth community.

4-6pm: Bike Clinic and Informal TGIF on the Redfield Lawn, 45 Water Street, Woods Hole. Visit with other cyclers or people who may want to cycle more. Folks who bike regularly, or have alternative cycles, i.e. recumbent, folding, or motorized bikes are especially encouraged to attend. Bring your bike and get a tune up or learn about basic bike maintenance. Bring your own drink and/or snack to share - if you want.

5-8pm: Eve Gabriel, author of "The Fateful Fork," will be the guest speaker at Coonamesett Farm's weekly vegetarian buffet. 277 Hatchville Road, East Falmouth.

Saturday, July 23 

 A Day of Sustainability in Hatchville

Coonamessett Farm, 277 Hatchville Road 

10am-noon, Bike Clinic; 1-3pm, Wind energy discussion and tour

Alchemy Farm, 237 Hatchville Road

4-4:30pm: Cape Light Compact presentation: Learn about programs available to homeowners and busineses to increase energy efficiency and save money.

5-7pm: Green Center Bioshelter Workshop and Tour: Tour integrated household scale systems; meet and talk with aquaculture, food and energy production experts.

Pot Luck Supper and Cinema Politica Film Screening at Alchemy Farm:  The Age of Stupid7:30pm, Pot Luck; 8:30pm, Movie

Sunday, July 24

6am: Interfaith Service at Nobska Light House

12pm: Community Celebration: St. Barnabas Episcopal Church Lawn. Join us on the lawn for bike-powered live music from Melodeego and others, activities for kids, and a fun time. Please bring creative signs, art, toys, beach balls, family and friends, pets and your can-do attitude. If you are affiliated with a group or faith community, you are encouraged to bike en masse to St. Barnabas on Sunday morning.
