Engine Fails on SSA Ferry

An engine failure on a Steamship Authority ferry this afternoon required a tug back to Woods Hole.

The Steamship Authority ferry MV Governor suffered a mechanical failure late this afternoon, leaving more than 50 passengers stuck on board for more than an hour before the boat could be tugged back to Woods Hole.

The Governor was making a scheduled 4 pm run to Woods Hole from Martha's Vineyard and was just minutes from the dock when one of its two engines reportedly lost power in Great Harbor.

The boat was towed in to the Woods Hole dock by the Coast Guard by 6 pm, according to reports.
