Historical Society to Receive Grant

Money will go toward completion of the society's new Education Center.

The has been awarded a substantial grant by the Masachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund, money which will aid in the completion of its new Education Center.

In a statement issued last week, Mark Schmidt, executive director of the society, said, "The Falmouth Historical Society and the Museums on the Green are proud to announce that they are recipients of a $100,000 Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund grant to be used towards the completion of their new, 3,600-square-foot Education Center.

"The building, which is set to open in mid-September, will be used for community programs, exhibits, events and lectures for all ages. It will also provide needed climate-controlled archival storage space for the multitude of artifacts collected by the Society to preserve Falmouth’s past. The handicap-accessible building comes equipped with public restrooms and will allow the Society to more fully serve the community on a twelve-month basis.

"The Cultural Facilities Fund is part of the Massachusetts Cultural Council, which is a state agency supporting the arts, humanities and sciences to improve the quality of life in Massachusetts and its communities. The MCC pursues its mission through grants, services, and advocacy for nonprofit cultural organizations, schools, communities and artists.

"Official presentation of this award will be on Thursday, August 2nd at 10:00 am at the Historical Society. Massachusetts Senate President Therese Murray as well as other dignitaries are scheduled to be in attendance."
