The people of Falmouth have spoken—although with only a 22 percent voter turnout, not all that loudly—and elected a new member of the Board of Selectmen, as well as turning down a ballot question that would have funded a new capital improvements stabilization fund. 

Falmouth Academy math teacher and first-time selectmen candidate Douglas Jones garnered 49.63 percent of the overall vote for the one open seat on the Board of Selectmen, with former Falmouth Fire Chief Paul Brodeur behind with 39.66 percent. David Moriarty followed with 10.62 perecent of the vote.

Kathleen Murray, Marilyn Zacks, and Jerome Fanger all retained their seats as Library Trustees, as did L. Lorusso Peterson, Susan Augusta, and Emily Davern on the School Committee. On the Planning Board, Douglas Brown and Robert Leary were reelected for three-year terms, while Paul Dreyer earned a one-year term on that board.

The one ballot question posed to voters yesterday asked to assess an additional $800,000 in real estate and personal property taxes to fund a capital improvements stabilization fund. The initiative failed, with 54.38 percent of voters weighing in with a "no" vote.
