Mashpee High School Student Arrested for Sending Threatening Tweet
A Mashpee High School student was arrested for allegedly threatening another student from Rockland High School via Twitter.
Rockland police contacted Mashpee police Monday about the incident, according to a message from Rockland High School Principal Alan Cron posted on the school district’s website.
Mashpee police then questioned and arrested the student accused of sending the threatening tweet. Cron said in his statement that the teen arrested was charged with threatening to commit a crime and disturbing a school assembly.
Rockland schools added additional security measures Tuesday due to the threat and upcoming basketball game between the two schools, according to the Rockland School Department’s website.

Let this be a cautionary tale for parents and children concerning ALL SOCIAL MEDIA!
This kind of thing is going on in every school, and with much younger children. Parents should have full access to their children's iPhones, Ipads, pods, facebook, twitter, KIK, Oovoo, Instagram and other sites you've probably never heard of. You may think your little darlings are not capable of such behaviors, but, probably like the kid in this story, they are. It doesn't mean they're natural born killers, or even particularly bad kids. It's just that technology is moving faster than our educational system in most cases, and many kids have been desensitized with video games, adult cartoons, and too many stories about mass shootings around the country. All that said, unless the child in this story was in possession of a lethal weapon or an anarchist's cookbook, he could have been charged without going through the process of being arrested. With all the school shootings it seems authorities are naturally hypersensitive. All the more reason to check your child's postings often, and limit the number of social sites to which they have access.

Wow, HS basketball, real serious stuff, sounds like another video game playing, rap music listening, I don't get off the cape too much cyber tough guy sitting in front of a public computer. good for the MPD and the RPD, they should send him or her the bill for the extra security. Mashpee graduates what 77% of the students, I am sure this person did all the homework, etc before the threat.
