Medical Marijuana: Where's The Best Place To Grow and Sell In Falmouth?

The Falmouth Planning Board has an article on the Annual Town Meeting Warrant that if passed would place a moratorium on marijuana dispensaries. The move would allow officials time to consider the best locations for a dispensary.

Last week, the state attorney general's office ruled that towns can regulate, but not ban medical marijuana dispensaries, according to the Boston Herald.

The decision struck down Wakefield's ban, with the attorney general's office saying, “The act’s legislative purpose could not be served if a municipality could prohibit treatment centers within its borders, for if one municipality could do so, presumably all could do so,” reported the Herald.

Selectman Mary Pat Flynn said that the Falmouth Planning Board has an article on the Annual Town Meeting Warrant that if passed would place a moratorium on marijuana dispensaries until April 30, 2014 or until the article is appealed by a vote at town meeting.

"The purpose of the warrant is to give the town time to undertake a planning process to address the potential impacts of in the town, receive guidance from the state, and consider the adoption of new zoning bylaws regarding the operation and location of such center," Flynn said in an email.

Let's start here....it is MEDICAL MARIJUANA & a DISPENSERY for PRESCRIBED treatments. It should be treated NO DIFFRENTLY than PHARMACIES, MEDICAL CLINICS,.DOCTORS OFFICES, DENTAL OFFICES or HOSPITALS. People who need marijuana for treatment of pain and other disorders deserve the right to purchase with dignity and not be treated like drug addicts making a purchase from the local drug dealer. The ignorant people in this town, including MANY doctors & our selectmen, need to get informed on this issue. All they are doing us blocking sick people & persons in pain from obtaining legal medical treatment. I dont understand, with this towns drug addiction pronlem & crime rate connected to opiate dependancy, like percoset & stronger & the devastating effect these highly addictive drugs have on mind & body, family & community,. Pot is not addictive, it gas few & minor side effects, but doctors prescribe deadly & addictive pain meds, dispensed in pharmacies (which sell toys, gift cards, etc. ) and YOU REALLY THINK A MARIJUANA DISPENSARY IS WORSE????? I could EASILY SEE TOWNS BEING SUED FOR UNECESSARY PAIN & SUFFERING FOR THEIR BLOCKADE OF OUR TREATMENT. Looking up the number for my attorney as I "speak

They should put as much thought into this as they did before they put up the wind turbines. Why not just build them right outside of our schools and any treatment centers like Gosnold.

You are failing to take into account that many of those who come to our town for the benefit of Gosnold and the like, do not have dependable transportation. I suggest we also have "Mobile Marijuana sites" (M & Ms) similar to the pushcart vendors outside Fenway. That way we can deliver to the patient! This could also be a good marketing idea,,, Dude!!! lets go get some M & Ms, my eyes are all red,, my Glaucoma must be acting up again. ..
M&M, we come to you,,, SWEET!

Zoning layovers need to be accomplished as soon as possible. Doctors need to develop the protocol for letters of recommendation with out getting all worked up over potentially losing their licenses. Seems like all are running around throwing up their hands, and waiting for this to go away. It won't go away. There are many legitimate patients who are waiting to come in from the dark and purchase their medical mj legally.

I think they are just stalling on it because they are ignorant and scared. They need to realize that it was voted on and won. Now lets make it happen, lets stop the unnecessary suffering. I bet if one of their family members were suffering and needed the medical marijuana they would be moving it along at a faster rate. It's a prescription, do they worry this much before they put oxy in people's hands... i think not! Now stop messing around and make it happen!

This isn't brain surgery. The models and doctors guidelines are already developed and in existance. Keep the red tape and personal agendas out of my medical care.
