Second Town Turbine Will Spin Soon

A 60-day trial will test Wind 2's operation, specifically, its negative effects on abutters.

The Cape Cod Times is reporting that the 1.65-megawatt "Wind 2" turbine at the town's wastewater treatment facility may begin operating by the end of this week.

A 60-day trial will test Wind 2's operation, specifically, its negative effects on abutters. During the first 30 days, the turbine will spin normally, and in the last 30 days it will be shut down when wind speeds reach 23 miles per hour—the same restrictions put on the town's Wind 1 turbine in February, as per order of a vote at November's Town Meeting.

During the 60-day trial, town officials will record abutter complaints, if any.

According to the Times, after the 60-day trial, both turbines will be turned off until Town Meeting in April. Wind 1 will run only when officals from the Department of Environmental Protection are studying its impact on abutters, who have complained for more than a year that the turbine produces detrimental health effects.
