Letter to the Editor: Stop Feeding the Animals

Falmouth resident Mark Cool says the Town's two turbines need to be shut down.

Town Meeting will, no doubt, be consumed by windmill discussion yet again.  The community should be asking itself “do we need to prolong this?"  "Can we afford to procrastinate any further?"

The elixir, the long sought Wind Turbine solution has been revealed!  The ‘fix’ hasn’t been inspired by a community conviction to 'help thy neighbor', but rather, comes from the cold calculated financials.

Instead of Falmouth’s Twin Towers of Power, Wind Turbine Options Process (WTOP) consultants say the wind energy public works project, including limited mitigation factors 'for thy neighbor', has made them Falmouth’s Twin White Elephants”.

The clear message to Town Meeting: The MA DEP recommended night time curtailment scenarios will result in power shortfalls.  These shortfalls translate into a municipal budget deficit.  Can we afford this  any further?

The turbines have got to go, and Town Meeting should turn it’s efforts to finding the best way to accomplish this.  It’s time we “stop feeding the White Elephants”!

Has anything, regarding the wind turbine turmoil, changed from last fall Town Meeting?
The WindTurbineOptionProcess concluded. Both the Town Manager (Jan 15,'13) and Board of Selectmen (Jan 30,'13) confirmed the project being fiscally unsustainable. And the turbines have continued it's drain on town budget.
With all but the final 'bill' tally available to Town Meeting, the information to date has made profoundly clear, that the once eagerly anticipated venture has proven to be a spectacular fiscal flop. How many more Town Meetings will it take before Falmouth fixes the mistake... once and for all?
