UPDATED: Fire Breaks Out at Quissett Boatyard

Along with a building used for boat storage, two boats were destroyed and others were damaged in yesterday's blaze.

Around 2pm yesterday, firefighters from Falmouth, Mashpee and Bourne were called to fight a major blaze that broke out at the Quissett Harbor Boatyard.

Firefighters battled the blaze, which had produced heavy quantities of smoke in the surrounding area, for more than two hours.

Boatyard owner Weatherly Dorris, whose family has owned the boatyard for about 55 years, was reportedly working on the property when she saw the building, which is used for boat storage, on fire.

According to the Boston Globe, Dorris also reported that while no one was injured in the blaze, two family-owned boats stored at the fire-ravaged building were destroyed.

She said that about a dozen other vessels appeared to be in fair condition, given that several of their booms and masts were irreparably damaged.

Dorris also said that her family plans to rebuild on the site of the damaged building, which is a total loss as a result of yesterday's fire.
