Storm Tapers Off; Save on Snow Stuff; Recycle That Tree
Five things to know in Falmouth this Friday, Jan. 3: Day 2 of the first blizzard of 2014.
1. The latest forecast from the National Weather Service advises that the heavy snow will be tapering off this morning from west to east, but blowing and drifting snow will continue into this afternoon. There's also a risk of flooding during the morning high tide. For updates throughout the day on Falmouth weather, closings and cancellations, check the Falmouth Patch Storm Center page.
2. If you must drive today, please leave extra time and observe these 10 Tips for Driving in Winter Weather, from Mass.gov. And be glad you're not in Boston, where at 4 a.m. the temperature was 1 degree Fahrenheit (not accounting for wind chill) while in Falmouth it was 25 degrees.
3. A timely post from Falmouth Exchange: "We have decided to stop carrying snowboards, cross country skis and boots! That means we are motivated to get rid of our inventory so come on down and make us an offer! All reasonable offers accepted!"
4. Don't want to drag your Christmas Tree to the recycling center? The tireless Falmouth High School band boosters are still taking reservations for tree recycling with pickup scheduled for Jan. 18. Here's how to make your reservation, help teen musicians and get a tiresome task off your to-do list.
