People for Cats: Leo

Leo, our lion, is the ultimate “mellow-yellow” kitty. He is a large orange domestic long hair male, with an elegant mane. This sweet boy was abandoned by his previous owner and a kindly neighbor brought him to us. Leo is approximately two years old, has beautiful golden eyes, and is a total love. On top of that, he is absolutely stunning, with long golden fur, which of course will need regular brushing. We suspect that he may have some Persian in his background.

Leo has tested FIV+ (positive), meaning that he has been exposed to the feline immunodeficiency virus. As a result, he will have to remain indoors and should be an only cat. FIV is not contagious to humans, dogs, or other species, but it is contagious to other cats. FIV is usually transmitted through bite wounds and is most common in unneutered males. This lovable boy is available for either adoption or a long-term foster situation.  Since the FIV virus is a lentivirus (or "slow virus"), with good nutrition and an indoor lifestyle, a cat can likely live many health years after exposure.
