Climate Change Study Underway

Barnstable officials want to know how to prepare for potential impacts of climate change. To do that the town is partnering with Falmouth's National Estuarine Research Reserve System in a two-year study.

During the two-year study scientists with the National Estuarine Research Reserve System and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology will identify areas of Barnstable that are vulnerable to flooding and other climate related risks.

Barnstable town officials hope to be prepared for possible climate change impacts like; increased flooding, shoreline erosion, salt-water intrusion into drinking water, and possible damage to infrastructure and property.

The University of New Hampshire funds the study.
