New Falmouth Patch Editor Introduces Herself

Meet Louisa Hufstader: Your newly-named Falmouth Patch editor has returned to the Cape and Islands after a decade and a half in the northern California wine country. But before that, she was a familiar voice on regional public radio.

Hi, everyone in and around Falmouth:

I'm delighted to be your new Patch editor.

After a decade and a half away from the southern New England shores where I grew up, I moved back to Massachusetts from Napa in February of this year, arriving in Woods Hole at the end of an eight-day drive just in time to catch the last SSA ferry to Vineyard Haven before all boats were canceled during the "Nemo" blizzard.

Before transferring in February, I was founding editor of Napa Valley Patch in the northern California wine country.

For the past six months I have been Patch editor on the Vineyard, where my Mom and many cousins grew up and still live today.

From the late 1970s to the mid-1990s, I was a broadcaster on Boston-area radio stations including WGBH, where I was a frequent guest-host on the "Eric in the Evening" jazz show.

The Boston Globe even profiled me as "Boston's premier female jazz D.J."

I also worked for many years at Rounder Records, when the folk and indie-music powerhouse was independently owned and located in Cambridge.

In Napa County, I spent several years each as education reporter for a daily newspaper and news director for an AM-FM radio station duo before becoming a freelancer.

I also spent six months in Seattle as live-in caregiver for a cancer-stricken cousin who was undergoing two stem-cell transplants in 2009. He is cancer-free today.

Now I am your editor and I look forward to getting to know Falmouth and its eight villages — with your help.

For one thing, I don't even  know how to pronounce "Waquoit."

For another thing — which is really what we're all about at Patch: This site is designed to be open to the public, and the more you use our free social media platform to get the word out about what's really important in your part of Falmouth, the better job I will be able to do getting your news out to the largest possible number of people.
