Weekend Planner: February 11-12

Eight great events in Falmouth for this coming weekend.

Got a kid ages 7-11? Then come on out to the at 10am on Saturday, February 11 for a workshop on making a Valentine's candy house with Sandy Valpey Cordts. The cost is $25. Be the architect and contractor of your own Valentine's house! A large variety of candies will be provided to build and decorate the house, as well as the landscape.

In the spirit of the 2012 "What’s Falmouth Reading?" selection, Seen the Glory by John Hough, Jr., the is offering a movie series with a Civil War theme on six consecutive Saturdays at 1pm. The series kicks off on Saturday, February 11 with the Academy Award winning film Glory (1989, Rated R) starring Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman and Matthew Broderick. It highlights the heroism of the the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, America's first African American regiment in the Civil War.

The will be offering the next in its series of Winter Travel Talks on Saturday, February 11 at 3pm. The speakers will be veteran travelers Rich and Ellie Armstrong, who have presented tales of their walking trips several times in previous years. This year, they have been walking in Provence, in southwest France, specifically in the Vaucluse and Luberon regions in the foothills of the Alps. Rich and Ellie will show their photographs and talk about their trip in the lower level large meeting room in the library, which is handicapped accessible. This event is free and open to the public.

On Saturday, February 11 from 7-10pm, will host the Falmouth Follies of 2012 to benefit the Falmouth Chorale. $45 admission includes a dessert buffet at intermission with chocolate, strawberries, meringues and other temptations, sparkling wines and non-alcoholic beverages. The show will feature Martin Fido as Mister Chairman, with Stephanie Miele, Tim Radford, Jacek Sulanowski, San Lineaweaver Lyman, Jeannette Fullerton, Frank Child, and singers from Belle Weather, Solstice Singers, Coro Ragazzi and the Falmouth Chorale. The restaurant in North Falmouth will host a Comedy Night to benefit the new Falmouth Ice Arena on Saturday, February 11 at 8pm. Featured comedian Wayne Soares was on the road this summer and fall making stops at Air Force bases in London, South Korea, and Germany on his International Comedy Tour. He also recently appeared in the movie Blind Pass. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. This show is sure to sell out, so call 508-564-5029 for ticket info.

Come on out to the at 1pm on Sunday, Feburary 12 and have fun doing a Latin-inspired Zumba workout to support the Cape Cod Center for Women, the Cape's only 24/7 emergency shelter for women and children escaping domestic violence. The cost is $12. Registration begins at noon.

Chef/owner Frederic Feufeu is back by popular demand at 1pm on Sunday, February 12 at , once again sharing favorite recipes from Bleu, his award-winning French bistro located in Mashpee Commons. The Woods Hole Folk Music Society's 40th season will continue on Sunday, February 12 with a performance by singers John Roberts and Debra Cowan. The concert takes place at 7:30pm in the . John Roberts and Debra Cowan are singers in the Anglo-American tradition who recently decided to team up for a series of concerts, to help with the logistics of getting from place to place while on tour. Their success and enjoyment blossomed into a longer-term collaboration, which they are bringing to Woods Hole for the first time. Admission is $15 with discounts for members, seniors, youth and children.
