Weekend Planner: March 31-April 1

Check out some great events this weekend in Falmouth.

On Saturday, March 31 at 2pm, the will host Civil War Memories and Memorabilia, presented by Massachusetts collectors Brad Peters and Jan Ross, who will share their experiences visiting major Civil War battlefields and their extensive assemblage of Civil War artifacts. They will give a brief talk with special emphasis on the Battle of Gettysburg, providing handouts to clarify the events of this complex battle. This will be followed by an opportunity for audience members to view & handle the artifacts.  

Come on out to an American Spring Potluck on Saturday, March 31 at 5pm at the . This free event will feature great food, live music, and a presentation by a Boston Phoenix journalist and author of the recently published 99 Nights with the 99%. This is an informal gathering, and all are welcome. The sponsor is Occupy Falmouth.

The Woods Hole Film Festival's Dinner and a Movie series continues in the Waterfront Dining Room at the on Saturday, March 31. The featured documentary will be Cave of Forgotten Dreams by Werner Herzog. For $25 per person, select from a preset menu which includes entree and movie. Dinner is served from 5:30pm and the screening begins at 7:30pm. Reservations are required; call 508-548-8563.

On Saturday, March 31 at 7pm in the auditorium, the Falmouth Band Parents will present the Ninth Annual Evening of Jazz, featuring the Falmouth High School Jazz Band and award-winning jazz musicians Matt Leder, Ross Novgrad, Manuel Kaufmann, Renato Malavasi, and Patrick Mottaz. Refreshments will be served after the show. Advance sale tickets are $10 per person; the "family special" is $25, which includes admission for five, with at least one accompanying student. Tickets at the door are $12 for adults and $5 for students. Proceeds will benefit Falmouth High School music programs. Tickets may be ordered at falmouthbandparents.org or purchased from Eight Cousins Books, Kaleidoscope Toys, The Bank of Woods Hole, and the West Falmouth Library.

Come on out to the on Sunday, April 1 from 12-3pm for the Second Annual Bridal Fair. Donations will be accepted for the Food Pantry, and vendors will include florists, jewelry, cakes, photographers, attire, music, caterers, and more. Meet and talk with local professionals who can help you plan the perfect day!

The Coalition for Children and the Cape Cod Conservatory Preschool are co-sponsoring "Musical Mother Goose" on Sunday, April 1 from 1-3pm at the Cape Cod Conservatory Preschool, 80 Highfield Drive in Falmouth. Parents and children are invited to this fun-filled afternoon. Explore the musicality of classic nursery rhymes through the use of hands-on instruments like shakers and rhythm sticks. There will be singing, dancing, and movement; children can create their own take-home book of rhymes, and parents will learn how early childhood music experiences build lifelong literacy. For more information, contact Carolyn Minervino at 508-548-0151, ext. 128.  

The Woods Hole Folk Music Society's 40th season will continue on Sunday, April 1 at 7:30pm in the with a performance by the Old Time Bluegrass Singers. The band plays classic bluegrass, the high-energy American string band music with roots in country, old-time dance band, and gospel music traditions. They have shared their enjoyment of this lively music with audiences across the country! Tickets are $15; doors open at 7pm.
