Rack Race is on at Pier37 [VIDEO]

Good Night Irene For Falmouth?

Pier 37 in under the Irene gun to secure boats to safe dry land. The rack behind the boathouse is notably empty as the forklift drivers compete against the clock as Irene race's towards New England.

The Town on Falmouth has issued a town warning to residents to secure accommodation, know your evacuation route and stock up on supplies.  Walmart, CVS and Stop-n-Shop have made it easier for residenta positioning water, batteries and candles at the front of their stores.

For those of us that were here for Hurricanes Bob, we all know Falmouth was hit pretty hard tossing a beach house across the street to Mill Road, flooding the shoreline and causing a loss of power for several days. Who can forget those displaced yellow-jackets buzzing about at all the beaches during the aftermath.

Tom Franny, a long time summer resident of Falmouth for more than 40 years has fond memories of Hurricane Bob.

"I remember gathering at a friends house in the Heights the day after the Falmouth Road Race Monday, August 19, 1991," Franny said. "My friends emptied their freezers with fish, venison, beer lit the grill and waited for the storm to hit."

Boatowner Steph Kelly of Falmouth has chosen to ride out the storm.

"She has her own concerns for my boat in Eel River and plans to take action and ride out the storm in North Falmouth," Kelly said.

To all our Patch readers, please be safe, secure your properties and your pets and have a safe hurricane party.
