5 Things You Need to Know Today, 10/11

Your last chance to check out the Farmers' Market.

1) The sun will return today, bringing with it clear skies, and temperatures in the high 50s. Windy, gusting up to 35 miles per hour in the morning, 25 in the afternoon. Still clear overnight, with temperatures in the high 40s.

2) The Falmouth Farmers' Market wraps up its 2012 run with its final meeting today, in Peg Noonan Park, from noon to five p.m. That means it's your last chance to check out the wide range of organic, sustainable, locally produced foodstuffs on display. Jam, chocolate, seafood, bread, flowers, and of course fresh fruits and vegetables—including fall favorites like pumpkins—will be available. For more information, visit http://www.falmouthfarmersmarket.org.

3) The Falmouth Arts Center offers a class in Life Drawing, on the second and fourth Thursday of each month, from 7 to 9 p.m. Students can register for one month at a time, for $30 for members, $40 for nonmembers. Models will be on hand to help students hone their skills. For more information, call (508) 540-3304, email director@falmouthart.org, or visit http://www.falmouthart.org.

4) The West Falmouth Library hosts String Circus, a concert by the Boston String Quartet featuring instrumental versions of such popular Beatles tunes as A Day in the Life, Fixing a Hole, and For the Benefit of Mr. Kite. A screen behind the performers will provide a video component to the show, and the group will also premiere four original compositions, one by each of its members. Tickets are $20, with those under 18 entering for free. For more information, call (617) 875-7851, email zaure@bostonstringquartet.com, or visit http://www.bostonstringquartet.com.

5) This day in history: the Boer War begins (1899); Pope John XXIII convenes the Vatican II council (1962); and Saturday Night Live debuts (1975).
