Artistic textile creations by Suzy Bergmann, Kathleen Keenan, Helen Koehler, Jane Parhiala, Carol Vincent and Irene Young will be on display at the Maser Gallery at Falmouth Community Television from February 3 through February 28, 2013.  The public is invited to the Opening Reception, Sunday, February 3, from 3:00 to 5:00PM.

Suzy Bergmann is the Executive Director at the Falmouth Artists Guild where she also teaches beginning SAORI weaving.  In addition to weaving, Suzy is also a quilt maker and knitter.

Kathleen Keenan considers herself an “experimental weaver,” creating cloth often more interesting than useful. She enjoys simple weaving, such as the Saori Freeform Weaving class she teaches at the Falmouth Artists Guild.  She also enjoys more complex weaving, and explains her attraction to complex weaving as the challenge of “problem solving with both limitation and endless variation.” Kathleen now has her own weaving studio on the third floor of Historic Highfield Hall.

Helen Koehler’s subjects of choice are imaginary landscapes. These she crafts in wool and cotton and embellishments of embroidery. Her inspirations come both from her younger days in the Southwest, and her current home on Cape Cod.

Jane Parhiala has delved into the textile arts for most of her life: knitting, felting and weaving - inspired by her love of color and style. Her hat designs can be practical or have the radical flare of the 1930s and 40s. “Wear a hat….wear an attitude!”

Carol Vincent has been designing and making one-of-a-kind clothing since she was eight years old. “I love iridescence in fabric and the way light changes the look of the fabric,” says Carol.

For thirty years, Irene Young’s mediums have included hand-spinning, traditional felting, nuno felting and creating eclectic fiber art. Her art pieces and clothing are made from the wool of local and New England farms. She also exhibits her fiber artwork in the Berkshires.
