Falmouth Genealogical Society Monthly Meeting

Program: The Portuguese in Falmouth

On Saturday, February 8, Lewis A. White will present a talk on the Portuguese in Falmouth. Based on census data, personal experience, and research using books, periodicals, oral histories, and interviews, he will include highlights from Falmouth and Portuguese history, summarizing the historical issues  that brought the two populations together.

The eldest child of Manuel S. White, Jr. and Cecelia P. (Dutra) White, lifelong residents of Falmouth, he attended Falmouth public schools, graduating from Lawrence High School in 1963 and then from Northeastern University in 1968.

Mr. White has an impressive resume with experience at the academic, small business, and high-tech levels. He was Adjunct Professor at Hesser College in Manchester, N.H.; consultant and then owner of Bobcat of Cape Cod, Inc.; and held positions of President, Vice-President, COO, and Director of Engineering at several high-tech and software businesses.

Semi-retired since 2010, he has written two books, including "Sopas, A Brief History of Portuguese Islanders, the Cape Cod town of Falmouth, and the Feast of the Holy Ghost".
