High School to Host Job Fair for Students

Falmouth
High School will host its 2nd annual Job Fair on Wednesday, March 26th
in the high school gymnasium. The fair is open to any local business interested
in hiring high school students for seasonal or year-round employment, as well
as businesses with internship or volunteer opportunities. Last year’s inaugural
Job Fair attracted 25 local businesses and hundreds of students who visited
with business owners and representatives, learned about the available
positions, and filled out applications. This year, the fair hopes to attract
even more local businesses. Space is limited to 45 businesses; tables are
available on a first-come, first-serve basis by contacting Falmouth Volunteers
In Public School (VIPS) at (508) 548-1621 or by e-mailing vips@falmouth.k12.ma.us. There is no
charge for businesses to participate.

The Job Fair
is held from 1 – 3 p.m., giving some students an opportunity to check out the
job and internship opportunities during their last period class, while other
students visit the fair after dismissal. Students have an opportunity to learn
about job openings, engage with potential employers, and fill out applications
on site. Also at the Fair, instruction and paperwork for Student Work Permits
will be available. A work permit is required for students aged 14-17 in order
for an employer to hire; a representative from the district’s administration
office will be on hand to explain the requirements and provide the required
forms for students.

The FHS Job
Fair is organized by VIPS, in collaboration with the FHS Internship and
Guidance programs and the Falmouth Chamber of Commerce. Support for the Job
Fair comes from grant funding provided by the Cape and Islands United Way and
Falmouth Education Foundation. Several
students were hired as a result of last year’s Job Fair. Employers commented on
how impressed they were with the students—many of whom “dressed for success”
and asked excellent questions about the job and internship opportunities
presented.

If you are
an employer with seasonal or year-round job opportunities, or if your

organization is interested in high school students as interns or volunteers,

please contact the VIPS office to reserve a table. A registration form will be

emailed and must be completed before a table can be reserved. For more details,
contact the VIPS office at (508) 548-1621 or send an e-mail to vips@falmouth.k12.ma.us.
