Introduction to Mosaics

This

fun and enjoyable workshop is ideal for the beginner with little or no

experience. During this two-day workshop, students will gain the skills

to

create and finish a lovely piece of art to display in the home. The

student will learn to cut, shape and grind stained glass.  Stained glass

comes in multiple shades and variations.

It can be cut with little hand strength when you learn a few tricks. A

grinder

is often used to smooth off edges and to make a piece fit snugly.
Students

will gain an understanding of the tools, adhesives and materials that are used

to create mosaics for interior and exterior uses. Opus Sectile, an art technique popularized in the ancient and medieval Roman World will be taught as well as the traditional Opus tessellatum style of cutting. The knowledge gained during

this workshop will then allow students to go further in their mosaic

journey.
You will select a design from the templates provided or use

your own simplified design. As you work, you will learn about the history of

mosaics as well as the tools, materials, substrates, adhesives and everything

else you need to know to create mosaics in your own studio (or kitchen table).
