Pottery Raffle at the Woods Hole Public Library

            Event:

Raffle of Work by Five Local Potters at the Woods Hole Public Library through November. Drawing December 11, 2013

The WoodsHole Public Library is delighted to announce that their five favorite pottershave again donated pieces for the Library’s annual holiday raffle. The generouscraftspeople are Ann Newbury, Anne Halpin, Tessa Morgan, Hollis Engley, and RonGeering, all very accomplished and local potters, several of them nationallyrenowned.    They have all been making this wonderful gesture of generosity for nine years, celebrating the importance of the Woods Hole Public Library in their lives.

            Each year

they agree on the type of pot they will donate. This year it is “flat pieces.” Tessa,

Ann Newbury, and Anne Halpin have donated serving pieces. Ron has delivered a

small richly detailed  plate, and

Hollis’s offering is a set of four lunch-sized plates.

AnnNewbury’s piece is a large rich blue deep round platter, slightly over twelve inches in diameter, with deep scoring decorating the edge. Ann Halpin’s is an elegant oval platter of   slightly under twelve inches in length glazed in her signature celandon green. Tessa’s is a fourteen inch rectangular serving platter with a flat sea-green center, surrounded byfish and kelp in her trademark sgraffito carved into the surface.     Ron’s piece is made in his traditional redware with lots of detail of a Cape Cod garden, complete with leaping fish.  Hollis’s plates have an amber ash glaze over a crackle slip.

            Raffle

tickets will be on sale in the Library for just one month, and at the Woods

Hole Renaissance Fair. The price is $ 2 for one ticket and $5 for three

tickets. The raffle drawing will be held at the Library’s annual Holiday party on Wednesday, December 11, though people do

not have to be present to win.
