"This 'N That" - Multimedia Art by Ej Mills Brennan

Artwork by Ej Mills Brennan will be on display from Friday, January 3, 2014 to Friday, January 31, 2014 at the Maser Gallery at Falmouth Community Television, 310A Dillingham Avenue, Falmouth. The public is invited to attend the Opening Reception on Monday, January 6, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the gallery.

Ej Mills Brennan is presently manager of the Museum Shop at the Cape Cod Museum of Art, a position that has provided inspiration for her own work. Both an artist and a musician, Ej is a firm believer in the healing power of art and music. “As a multimedia artist, I tend to see something in everything,” she says.

Ej enjoys painting with gouache (opaque watercolors). She also loves oils and working with multiple-block prints, which she feels come alive with the wet texture of oil inks.

“This show is a collection of the various works that I have created over a span of time as well as some more recent works. I attended Portland School of Art (now Maine College of Art) in 1980/81 as a sculpture major, and their foundation program provided the basis for my continued studies as a multimedia artist,” explains Ej. “Wet felting with Shetland fleece has added a fiber palette to my work and I continue to develop ideas simply by observing how natural fibers react to the somewhat labor intensive process of felting.  I also enjoy the fact that variations in this process cannot be controlled.”

Ej Mills Brennan holds a Masters degree in Education, a Bachelors degree in Music and an Associates degree in Jazz and Contemporary Music. After studying at Cambridge College, UMASS Dartmouth, Berklee College of Music, UMaine Augusta, Portland School of Art and Cape Cod Community College, she is now MA Certified in Music. She also studied at Framingham Union Hospital School of Nursing.

Amongst many projects, she has produced two independent CD Releases: Breath of Prayers II - A collection of Solo Native American Flute (1998), Breath of Prayers III - Original Compositions: Piano, Flutes, and Vocal (2003). She was a NEFA (New England Foundation of the Arts) grantee and curator for two Northeast Woodland/Native Arts Exhibits: Bringing Back the Animals (2010) and Interpretations (2010).
