“Selectmen opted to put up the turbines and Town Meeting voted to put them up. We are not to blame for what happened, but we definitely have to take responsibility for what happened and take responsibility for solving the problem.” ~ Julia C. Taylor, Precinct Six, Spring 2013 Town Meeting
Last year Town Meeting voted and agreed with her. Nearly a year has pasted. Have selectmen, with that mandate, taken responsibility for solving the problem? Has the board’s actions fixed the mistake or bled another year from afflicted neighbors and the community? Is there a leader among us that will proactively take the responsibility for solving the problem?
There will be those that believe the problem was solved by the referendum vote by the town not to fund turbine removal. Yet, beyond continued resident complaints, the problem has grown into an annual budget “bail-out.” There will be those (selectman candidates included) that passively believe the solution is now up to the courts. Yet, the court’s compensation will do nothing to mend a torn community, and the problem will persist.

Is there anyone (sitting selectman or candidate) willing to “take the bull by the horns,” take steps to hold state authorities accountable for their part and that will finally ... proclaim a stop to blaming the unintended victims near the turbines?
As precinct meetings approach, a time of reflection might include old words being put into action.
