The Trappings of Pork-Barreled Wind

Town Meeting members have a right to feel aggrieved over wind. They have been led up the garden path where fairies spread pixy dust and pigs fly. This Town Meeting should feel no different.

Another Town Meeting. And another offer from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center. ‘Tis another season of deceit where promises are made to get your vote. Deja vous Town Meeting 2009 all over again!

Over the weekend, in what is no doubt only the tip of the iceberg as town staff ramps up for MassCEC award questions, the MassCEC will be providing the town manager’s office talking points, and clever accounting tricks. Of course the incentives which MassCEC is offering to try and secure TM votes will very likely pass. But you can be rest assured that it does nothing to solve the ongoing violation of our community’s bylaw.

How MassCEC and Falmouth’s town staff could claim to be committed to bringing Falmouth’s wind budget in to surplus, “in a responsible, sound and businesslike manner” is beyond comprehension. The buyout’s very nature is to perpetuate the problem and serves to discount the effectiveness of our community’s nuisance law. A law in existence to protect ALL Falmouth residents.

In essence, the MassCEC award, with it’s restrictive terms and conditions, is committed to demantling Falmouth’s ability to govern itself so the state wind energy agenda may be promoted. Falmouth is being asked to sell part of it’s soul.

Don’t fall for the MassCEC/town staff trap. Beware of politicians and henchmen bearing gifts!
