Wind Energy: Where Red has become the new 'Green' - Falmouth

In its effort to accelerate wind energy with $, does the State explain the potential perils to host communities it attempts to entice?

December 18, the Concord Patch heralded the town’s new “Green Community” status in What it means to be ‘Green’.  The hoop-la included 12 other towns earning the seemingly wonderful designation.

Gov. Deval Patrick said

“I congratulate these communities on joining the more than 100 Green Communities across the Commonwealth as they make smart investments in energy efficiency and renewable energy,” Patrick said in a press release. “Community by community, we are protecting our environment, reducing municipal costs and making Massachusetts a clean energy leader.”

What I find concerning, the phrases ‘smart investments in renewable energy’ immediately followed by ‘community by community, we are reducing municipal costs.’  It seems the Governor is oblivious to Falmouth’s wind project fiscal fiasco, or he sends a message to citizens and town hall, that he simply doesn’t care.

The article says “it’s not easy being Green, but it is the color of money.”  In Falmouth, the first part is a gross trivialization.  And the second part of the statement doesn't come close to truth.  The 'color of money' in Falmouth, due to green ($) seduction coupled with defective state turbine siting recommendations, has caused the town’s accountant to see “Red.”  The town manager admitted to the finance committee in January 2013, due to narrowed turbine operation restrictions, that Falmouth’s wind energy project will bankrupt the town.

If experience is a better teacher than money, new and potential Commonwealth “Green Communities” ought take heed.
