Winds of Courage

Driving in the rain this morning. Listening to the drone of the local radio station. The word’s profiles in courage caught my attention. The piece talked about JFK, November 22 being the 50th anniversary of his assassination, and the book he wrote with it’s relevance to our government’s shut-down.

The radio talked of the book’s political characters who crossed party lines or defied the sentiments of their constituents to do what they felt was right... at a cost to their careers. I though... “How appropriate. Not so much as it applies to the turmoil in DC (though there’s an obvious ring of truth), but rather, on a smaller, home town, Rockwellian scale, right here in Falmouth.”

Profiles in Courage is a book worth the read, for Falmouth decision makers thinking of the kind of courage maybe they wished they had. As true for Falmouth as it is for DC, wouldn’t it be unique if the majority of citizens encouraged those decision makers who choose to fly against the winds of popularity to say, "I know it will cost to fix (the wind turbine problem). But I think it's the best thing to do for our Country (community)"?

Do we want new profiles in courage, or in Falmouth, town hall leaders who fit more quietly into our wallets and pocket books?
