Mary Herlihy, Mother of 8, Dies at 84

She was a member of St. Timothy Parish and volunteered at the Norwood Meals on Wheels and the Pine Street Inn in Boston.

Mary K. (Durkan) Herlihy, 84, a 60-year resident of Norwood, Wednesday, April 23, at the Stanley Tippett Hospice Home in Needham.

Born in Frenchbrook, County Mayo, Ireland on June 6, 1929, the daughter of the late Anthony and Mary (Walsh) Durkan, she was the beloved wife of  the late John J. C. Herlihy, the  loving mother of 8 children, Charles Herlihy and his wife, Lucy of Grand Forks, BC, Trisha Herlihy of Falmouth, Mark Herlihy and his wife, Nancy Campany of Foxboro, William Herlihy of Grand Forks, BC, Kathleen Herlihy of Southington,  CT,  Donna and her husband, John Portillo of Santa Ana, CA, and Ellen Herlihy and Moira Herlihy, both of Norwood; the cherished grandmother of 20 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; and the dear sister of 16 siblings.

Mary was an active member of St. Timothy Parish and volunteered at the Norwood Meals on Wheels and the Pine Street Inn in Boston.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, April 28, at 9:00 AM at the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole St., NORWOOD, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM, at St. Timothy Church, 650 Nichols St., Norwood. Burial will follow in Holyhood Cemetery in Brookline.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, April 27, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral  home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s memory to Stanley R. Tippett Hospice Home, 920 South St, Needham, MA 02492 or via www.vnacarenetwork.org.
