Vestas V 82 Wind Turbine Fire Again

Echtrop ,Germany another Vestas V-82 commercial 1.65 megawatt turbine has gone up in flames. This model is the same as that installed in Falmouth, Massachusetts      The cause of the fire is unknown but from the picture it looks to be in the area of the gear box. Gear boxes hold up to 200 gallons of special oil that becomes flammable under high heat during leaks & failures. The wind industry is having trouble keeping the dirty little secret about gear box failures quiet.   Gear driven turbines are considered antiques. The wind industry has switched to a newer unproven direct drive type transmission.     Falmouth, Massachusetts has three wind turbines of the type "Vestas" with a capacity of 1650 kilowatts. Two publicly owned and one private.   The commercial megawatt turbine is a multi-million dollar loss.   http://jeffersonleaningleft.blogspot.com/2014/02/in-germany-another-wind-turbine-goes-up.html
