Cape Cod Brothers Charged in Drug Trafficking Conspiracy

Federal agents nab local brothers for their involvement in an alleged large-scale drug trafficking operation that spanned from Florida to Cape Cod.

Federal agents allege that 34-year-old Stanley Gonsalves of Sandwich and 32-year-old Joshua Gonsalves of Dennisport obtained tens of thousands of Oxycodone tablets in Florida and distributed them to drug dealers on Cape Cod, according to a press release. Police believe the operation began as early as 2009.

Stanley Gonsalves was arraigned in Boston Friday and is being held at the Barnstable County Correctional Facility until a hearing that is scheduled for December 4. He faces 30 years in federal prison if he is convicted.  Joshua Gonsalves is also being held at the Barnstable County Correctional Facility until his initial court appearance in Boston, November 15. He faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted. Both men face fines of up to $2 million.

Multiple agencies contributed to the investigation including the FBI, Cape Cod Drug Task Force, Massachusetts State Police and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office.
