Man Convicted of Falmouth Cop Assault Faces Middleboro Murder Charges

A man who allegedly shot and killed a woman in Middleboro had just finished serving a sentence for assaulting a Falmouth police officer in November, the Cape Cod Times reported.

Thomas Buttimer, 52, has been charged for fatally shooting Norma DesRoche on July 11, the New Bedford Standard Times reported. When police arrived on scene, Buttimer allegedly pointed his gun at them and would not back down, leading police to shot and subdue the man. Buttimer is currently recovering.

Less than a month ago, Buttimer was released from the Barnstable County Correctional Facility for a Nov. 2012 incident when police tased him after he wielded a knife at officers at the Fairwinds Apartments. He served six months for assault with a deadly weapon.

Buttimer has been charged with assault with intent to murder and possession of a firearm in the Middleboro murder case, the Times reported. The case is still under investigation; other charges are possible.
