UPDATED: Falmouth Wind Turbines to Run More Hours Starting Oct. 1

The Cape Cod Times reports that Falmouth selectmen voted 3-2 Monday to operate Wind 1 and Wind 2 for 16 hours a day. Is this a compromise or a cop-out? Tell us in the comments.

Corrected: The original post misstated the number of hours the turbines will run starting in October.

A divided Falmouth board of selectmen voted Monday to increase the hours of operation for both its 1.65-megawatt wind turbines from 12 to 16 hours a day, effective Oct. 1, reports the Cape Cod Times. (Read "Falmouth selectmen split on town's wind turbines.")

The vote was 3-2 to increase energy production so that the turbines aren't losing the town money, the Times reports.

The decision, while it "doesn't eliminate the certain challenges that remain for both" selectmen and turbine neighbors, is still "a win," writes one Patch user in our Speak Out section. (Read "A Win for the Community's conscience.")

What do you think of the selectmen's decision? Was it a compromise with neighbors who have complained about the turbines, or a cop-out that leaves the town facing more trouble to come? Tell us in the comments.
