Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick has ordered all state and U.S. flags on state buildings and facilities to fly at half-staff through sunset Friday, "as a mark of respect for the victims of the violence perpetrated at the Washington Navy Yard on September 16, 2013."
President Obama has made a similar proclamation.
The governor's order applies to all state run buildings, state military installations and the seats of local government, including town halls.
