Julian Suso to Start as New Town Manager

Suso will report for work next week as Falmouth's new Town Manager.

After more than six months of a marked by infighting and finger-pointing, the wait is over: former Framingham Town Manager Julian Suso has formally accepted the position of Falmouth's newest Town Manager.

In September, the Board of Selectmen voted, 4-1, to hire Suso over three other finalists. Since then, Suso and the Board have been hammering out the details of his contract: $150,000 annual salary with four weeks of paid vacation, 15 sick days and three personal days each year.

Suso will report for work next week, replacing interim Town Manager Heather Harper, who has been in the job since former Town Manager Robert Whritenour resigned one year ago.

Framingham has struggled with some of the same waste water treatment issues currently confronting Falmouth, Suso has said, so he has experience with the kinds of large, expensive undertakings he called “big and bumpy projects.”

The Town Manager should look into how funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act were used to but the six year old Falmouth Wind 1 turbine with stimulus funds. The turbine had NO warranty and had been purchased by the MTC in 2004.A full review of state and federal officials needs to look into the financing of this turbine.

I am excited. Mr. Suso appears to be a really solid, experienced guy. We need that! Kudos to the selectmen on their choice. Sometimes good decisions take a long time:

Will Mr. Suso mandate health and well-being protection for ALL Falmouth citizens, and accept town hall responsibility for these ill-sited wind energy plants; or will Mr. Suso become an accomplice and sacrifice these citizens because they are in the minority, and because there is not sufficient moral character among the members of Town Government to admit error and choose people over money?

Boston I Team quote : "Hello Mr. Shortsleeve, I have received your allegations of suggested improprieties involving the actions of Building Commissioner Mike Foley. Given the significance of these allegations, I have asked Town Counsel’s Office to undertake a full investigation and to return the results to the Town Manager’s Office for action as appropriate. My request to Town Counsel’s Office is that this investigation be thorough, deliberate and begun expeditiously. I am asking for your personal cooperation with Town Counsel’s Office to allow Town Counsel to bring this investigation to full and appropriate closure. Thank you. Julian M. Suso"

Let's hope the Boston I Team comes down to look at how stimulus money was used to build a six year old Vestas V 82 wind turbine in Falmouth !
