Cape Cod Commission is a “Bureaucratic Cancer” Spreading Across the Cape!

The Cape Cod Commission is a “Bureaucratic Cancer” Spreading Across the Cape!

There is a cancer, a bureaucratic cancer, spreading throughout the Cape Cod body politic that, if not treated forthrightly and forthwith, will prove terminal to the economic and financial vitality of this region as we know it!

If one has been vigilant, they will have noticed the long-term, progressively creeping self-propagation of the Cape Cod Commission bureaucracy. It has been infiltrating all forms of local and regional social, political, governmental, economic, and environmental apparatus on the Cape. Nobody loves it, many despise it, but it keeps growing. Such unrelenting expansion seems to imply that the Cape Cod Commission is parasitic in nature, and its growth uncontrollable. It is a bureaucratic cancer that until now has eluded all but the most careful political observation and forthrightly necessary political activism.

Lead by its obsessively controlling county government masters,  the Commission is an utterly inefficient and ineffective parasitic bureaucracy. It truly needs to be utterly reformed. If it is not, then Cape Cod as we know it will be destroyed by socio-economic sclerosis, resource misallocation, incorrigibly wrong-minded decisions and the distortions of a “bureaucratic reality” as portrayed by the self-proclaimed expert minions housed within 3225 Main Street in Barnstable Village.

Many people have been intimidated by a county governmental institution which can write the rules of the game, because they are afraid the penalties might even go up from there. However, there is one thing that the bureaucratic officials of the Cape Cod Commission themselves fear, and that is an educated, well-informed and activist “we the people.”

Please be forewarned that the Cape Cod Commission is presently trying to increase its governmental power, official authority, and political influence by leaps and bounds via the mechanism of a Cape-wide District of Critical Planning Concern (DCPC). Morever, they are also trying to rewrite the rules for projects of Developments of Regional Impact (DRI). They are in the process of holding low-key public hearings on these matters.

If they succeed with either endeavor, it will be tantamount to a power grab at the expense of each one of the respective Cape Cod municipalities. In essence, the Commission seeks to usurp jurisdictional authority which rightfully belongs to each of our towns, and thereby the voters who reside within them. Don’t let them do it!

Not only does the Cape Cod Commission Act formally deny them such authority, but newly sought after powers would in all likelihood eventually be struck down as unconstitutional by the order of a Court of competent jurisdiction. We should not let it happen from the get go!

The Cape Cod Commission bureaucratic mentality extols the so called virtues of red tape, endless and mindless regulations. They, and what they financially cause to the rest of us, are the real cancer which is sapping the freedom from not only our local Cape economy, but also our very lives.

As many voters and taxpayers are beginning to find out, Cape Cod Commission red tape and bureaucrats cripple or destroy potential business deals on the surface every day of the week here.  But the more ominous impact is what lies immediately below the surface, this same dynamic depresses and numbs the human spirit of the would-be self-starting Cape Cod entrepreneur.

As mentioned, Cape Cod Commission bureaucrats are killing our economy, so why on earth would we ever even think of giving them more power to wreak even more economic, social and political havoc upon the populace of this peninsula? We should not!

Please contact your town’s representative to the Cape Cod Commission, but more importantly, please contact your town’s representative on the democratically elected County Assembly of Delegates. If all else fails, they possess the legal authority and the political will to prevent this problem from spreading any further than necessary. They may be emailed at: aofd@barnstablecounty.org

Finally, as soon as this humble epistle is publicized, you can bet your bottom dollar that the Cape Cod Commission propaganda machine will immediately expound denial after denial along with spewing out claims of misinformation and misunderstanding. Don’t fall for it, since it simply just is not so!
