Heat Wave May Create Record Electrical Grid Demand

The manager of New England’s electric grid expects this week's heat wave to create near-record demand for air conditioning, the Cape Cod Times reported.

Officials at Independent System Operator New England say they estimate power demands to reach 27,600 megawatts in the region’s six states. That's only a little shy of the region's record usage: 28,130 megawatts.

As temperatures are forecast to reach 90 across the Cape, officials ask residents to limit electricity use where possible.

The Cape has already suffered widespread blackouts this summer when nearly 25,000 N Star customers lost power on July 6.
