Housing Walk Headed for Falmouth

The charity walk will begin in Provincetown on Monday, and arrive in Falmouth on Saturday.

The 20th annual Housing With Love Walk—in which participants walk the length of the Cape, to raise money and awareness for affordable housing—is set to kick off in Provincetown this Monday, and to arrive in Falmouth on Saturday.

The week-long walk was renamed this year, and is now known as the Bob Murray Housing With Love Walk, in honor of the event's founder.

In a statement, the Housing Assistance Corporation said, “Bob is a passionate and effective housing advocate whose impact has extended far beyond the Cape. Bob continues to be an inspiration to those who walk with him and those who work with him to create better housing opportunities all across the Cape.”

During its history, the walk has raised a total of $3.6 million, money which has allowed its participating organizations to pursue their missions of providing affordable housing and preventing homelessness on the Cape. But the benefits go farther.

The local agencies which participate in the walk build houses, offer emergency shelters, community outreach and mentoring, provide energy efficiency renovations and classes in financial literacy, budgeting, and credit repair, and conduct workshops for first-time home-buyers.

The walkers are set to cross from Mashpee into Falmouth on Saturday the 14th, and to spend Sunday the 15th walking into Woods Hole, then back to Main Street in Falmouth. To learn more, visit the walk on Facebook.
