Community Corner

New Toy Shop, Old Saloon, Messiah Sing

Five things to know as we start the week in Falmouth.

1. Have you visited the Nantucket Toy Company's new Falmouth satellite yet? It recently opened at 366 Main Street: Look for a window full of big stuffed animals and a "20 Percent Off" sale sign.

2. Another place to check out is the new Quicks Hole Tavern at the old Leeside bar in Woods Hole. It opened last week with light bar fare, drinks and coffees.

3. The Falmouth Chorale welcomes all to a Community Sing of Handel’s Messiah. John Yankee will conduct participants and the Falmouth Chamber Players Orchestra in performing sections of this inspiring oratorio at First Congregational Church, 68 Main Street, Falmouth. Scores are available, or bring your own. $5 suggested donation. More information at www.falmouthchorale.org or 774-392-2383.

4. Christmas is still more than a week away, but the tireless Falmouth High School band boosters are taking reservations for tree recycling with pickup scheduled for Jan. 18. Here's how to make your reservation, help teen musicians and get a tiresome task off your to-do list.

5. Ever thought about writing for television sitcoms? Take a crash course in the New Year with the fourth annual Woods Hole TV Writers Retreat, Feb. 21-23, 2014. Sponsored by the Woods Hole Film Festival and the Woods Hole Inn, it's run by experienced writers from The Simpsons and other hit shows.
