Alternative Gifts, Chamber Concerts, Gifts for Kids, Poetry Readings

Weekend agenda: Five things to do in the Falmouth area.


  1. Alternative Gift Market: The Seventh Annual Upper Cape Alternative Gift Market is where you can purchase meaningful, non-traditional gifts to support humanitarian and environmental projects on Cape Cod and around the globe; fair trade items from Equal Exchange, The Sharing Foundation and A Thread of Hope will be for sale at as well. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., St. Barnabas Church, Main St. and the Village Green, Falmouth.
  2. At 11 a.m., there's a free Free VA Aid and Attendance Workshop on Financial Help for Assisted Living at Atria Woodbriar, 339 Gifford Street, Falmouth.
  3. The Falmouth Chamber Players Orchestra, under the direction of John Yankee, performs its fall concerts “Celebrating Three Centuries of Music,” on Saturday at 7 p.m., and Sunday at 3 p.m. at Falmouth Academy. The program includes “Concerto in C for Two Trumpets and Strings” (RV 537), by Vivaldi; “Concerto in the Old Style for Three Violins and String Orchestra” (first movement), by Douglas Townsend; “St. Paul’s Suite,” by Holst, and Symphony No. 104, by Haydn. Suggested donation is $20 for adults, $5 for children. For information, visit FalmouthChamberPlayers.org, or call Fritz Sonnichsen at 508-274-2632. 
  4. Help bring needy kids worldwide a brighter Yule with Operation Christmas Child at the Packing Event, Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Falmouth Baptist Church, 60 Central Park Court, Falmouth. 
  5. The Calliope Poetry Reading at West Falmouth Library happens Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. featuring Shelby Allen, Susan Nissenbaum-Becker and Gary Whited. There is a $5 suggested donation to fund the poets’ stipend, and refreshments will be served. Open mic sign-up begins at 2:45pm.
