Governor Pitches Budget Plan to Cape Cod Chamber

Gov. Deval Patrick visited Hyannis on Thursday afternoon to speak with community leaders and members of the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce about his budget proposal.

  Governor Patrick arrived at the Cape Codder Resort shortly after 12:30 p.m., and took the stage to pitch his budget proposal to more than 100 business owners, chamber members, and local officials.    Over the course of thirty minutes, Governor Patrick spoke at length about the need to make significant investments in public education and transportation infrastructure. Following his remarks, the Governor fielded questions from the crowd, including Dr. Mary Czajkowski, Superintendent of Barnstable Public Schools. Cape Cod Chamber Head Elected President of Regional Business Association

The head of the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce is taking on a new role in business. Wendy Northcross was elected President of the New England Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (NEACCE).

Wendy Northcross, CEO of the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, was appointed to the position at the organization’s annual meeting at the Wequasestt Resort in Chatham this month. The NEACCE is comprised of more than 100 Chamber executives from Rhode Island, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Northcross is excited to take on the new role and collaborate with neighboring states. “I am honored to have been selected by my peers to lead this organization for the coming year,” Northcross said. “We have just delivered a new website for our members, and we are planning forums on key issues affecting the six New England states such as transportation and health care insurance.”   Northcross previously served as the organization’s Vice …

Chamber Appoints New Communications Manager

The Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce hired a social media expert that will help local businesses across all communication platforms.

Centerville- The Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce appointed Courtney Wittenstein as the Communications and Member Services Manager. The newly created position will provide members with  benefits across all channels of social media. Wittenstein was raised in Chatham and recently moved back to Cape Cod after working as an administrative assistant for the Bowdoin International Music Festival in Bowdoin, Maine. Wittenstein also worked for the Cape Cod Chronicle as both a reporter and advertising representative.

How Was Business This Summer?

Most key indicators rose.

  The Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce Board met this morning. At the end of the agenda, board members, business owners, share the state of their businesses. They had, mostly, encouraging things to share this morning. “Everyone is very pleased with the summer,” Chamber CEO Wendy Northcross said. “It was better than last year. They weather was a big factor.” The rate of hotel room occupancy rose as compared to last year and people paid more for their stay. More people dined out, especially at restaurants with outside seating. Visits to the National Seashore increased. Those increases follow a trend.
