Phone: (508) 831-8111 Hometown: Port Jeff, NY Birthday: 4/23/83 Jen is an anomaly for an Osterville resident, perhaps for Barnstable too. The native New Yorker is a young professional, a new homeowner excited about putting down roots on the Cape (even if they are transplanted) and ready to defy demographers forecasting an exodus of young people by helping figure out how to make Gen X and Y stick around.  Prior to joining Patch, Jen was a freelance social media and digital consultant working on environmental and social responsibility campaigns for Changents.com, Timberland and Procter & Gamble. In 2007, Jen graduated from Boston University with a dual master's degree in corporate public relations and communication research. Upon graduation, she accepted a position at a Boston consulting firm as an analyst and built communication, branding and business strategies for Fortune 500 clients. Jen left behind the trenches of data crunching and statistics on her adventure to Cape Cod. Jen earned a bachelor's degree in news and editorial journalism with national honors from West Virginia University. While earning her degree, Jen was a staff writer for The Daily Athenaeum and wrote for The Times Beacon Record, The Dominion Post, Clarksburg Exponent Telegram and Starting Over: Loss and Renewal in Katrina's Aftermath, a Society of Professional Journalists' Mark of Excellence Award national finalist for online in-depth reporting. Jen also helped launch Long Island Pulse Magazine. Our Beliefs At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable. This disclosure is not a license for you to inject your beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that your beliefs are on the record will cause you to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you ever see evidence that we failed in this mission, please let us know. Politics  I'm not enrolled in a party, but I am certainly more aligned with democratic and rainbow ideology. That being said, I am open-minded to policies and candidates from both parties as long as there are good logical arguments. Religion I am not religious, but I am spiritual and identify with Buddhism. Local Hot-Button Issues A few of the biggest issues facing our community are infrastructure, energy and the environment. I believe there isn't an easy solution to many of the issues we are facing and will face during the next 10 years – wastewater, wind farms and protecting our delicate ecosystems — to name a few. I do believe we need better communication of information to engage the community, collaboration and smart planning to make the best decisions for the future, not just today. As an environmentally conscious person, I am partial to renewable energy and minimal impact to our land.
